This month’s topic: Miro Kurka, discusses the benefits of professional organizations, especially SAME; provide an update on Industry-Government Engagement on cost engineering; and provide an update on the 2025 SAME strategic plan.

Miro Kurka leads Mead & Hunt’s Water Resources Group. Miro has 30 years of experience as an Army engineer and has commanded two United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Districts and was Deputy Commander of the USACE Northwestern Division in Portland. Miro has oversight responsibilities for all design project managers and is responsible for technical planning and analysis, project management, developing project work scopes and negotiating task orders. Miro has successfully managed planning and feasibility studies and was Principal-In-Charge of a highly successful new hydroelectric project on an existing USACE dam. He has also managed large USACE civil works studies and construction projects, and helped solve major water resource regulatory and policy issues. He has also been responsible for military construction and maintenance projects world-wide. He is the Regional Vice President of SAME’s TEXOMA Region and Chair’s ACEC’s Federal Agencies Procurement Advocacy Committee.

Miro is a professional engineer licensed in Oklahoma and Oregon and a project management professional. He and his wife, Bonnie, have three grown children, one son-in-law and a growing grandson.
