Presentation topic: One of the most difficult aspects associated with transitioning people from design-bid-build to design-build project delivery is mental. Transforming a group of individuals with often conflicting agendas, who are accustomed to working in a fragmented, often adversarial, low bid environment into an integrated, highly collaborative, trust-based team is no easy task. And yet, the power of the design-build process lies fully in the ability to do just that—learn to behave, operate, and engage as one team. There are some fundamental principles and practices that help design-build teams make the mental shift so they can perform “as one” and therefore leverage the collective intelligence of the contractors, architects, engineers, and owners who work together using a design-build approach to design and develop comprehensive integrated solutions. This presentation will introduce those principles and practices.
