7th Street Bridge – Fort Worth
The reconstructed West 7th Street Bridge improves pedestrian access and safety while creating a landmark gateway between the city of Fort Worth’s downtown and cultural districts. This high-profile bridge project over the Trinity River for the Texas Department of Transportation is said to be the only one of its kind in the state, or perhaps anywhere. The new structure features 10-foot pedestrian walkways and 12, precast concrete arches that run the length of the structure (six per side), each measuring 24 feet tall by approximately 160 feet long, and weighing 640,000 pounds. Approximately 300,000 pounds of polished stainless steel within the arches and bridge superstructure are illuminated at night with embedded lighting. Sundt’s bridge construction experts adopted an aggressive schedule and innovative construction techniques in order to open lanes for traffic a full 30 days early.
Chris Cedar served as the project manager for the 7th Street Bridge project. Chris has 19 years of industry experience in various areas of construction work and he coordinates and oversees all civil engineering projects involving Sundt’s San Antonio office. Prior to joining Sundt, Chris’s worked for W.W. Webber LLC in San Antonio and Austin, Ferrovial Agroman USA, and Austin Bridge and Road, Jones Contractors, L.P. Chris received his bachelor in business administration and finance from the University of Houston. He contributes to several non-profit organizations including the Boys Scouts of America, Beyond Batten Disease Foundation and the North Central Texas chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
